Mamaw's Tatting
Welcome to another Vintage Thingy Thursday. Don't forget to visit all of our friends at Colorado Lady. I was fortunate to have acquired some of my grandmother's tatting. We called her 'Mamaw'. She crocheted and tatted with the string from feed sacks. I also got all of her crochet hooks and I am still using them.This is Mamaw holding me as a baby.

Reusing the string from feed sacks was very frugal. Your figurine is cute.
ReplyDeleteI love all the sweet pictures you shared..and your grandmothers tatting is simply gorgeous. My grandmother taught me to tat,but I've since forgotten how. All the other needleworks I can remember,but not the beautiful tatting. I love that sweet little figurine..I love to crochet in my favorite chair like she does... Happy VTT..have a wonderful weekend.

Wow, nothing went to waste with those feed/flour sacks, huh? Those are gorgeous. I bow to anyone who can do this sort of thing, then or now!

What wonderful memories you are sharing! That country background in the one looks like where I grew up. LOL! The nice thing is that you know tatting and crochet and knitting are different. So many people call all kinds of needlework "tatting". Or they call it crochet or knitting...

ReplyDeleteI got a box full of tatting shuttles at a flea market recently, pretty cheap, because the lady had no idea what they were.
