My Crochet Projects

I taught myself to crochet in 1973 using a Woman's Day magazine that had the step by step instructions. Janet was barely a year old. My home economics teacher had taught me to knit during afternoon classes and I think this helped me with learning to crochet so easily. I started making afghans with yarn because if you make it too big, who's going to know? About five or six years ago, a lady at work asked me to make her a doily. I agreed but was apprehensive because I had tried crocheting with thread before. I had ordered all of the Annie's Attic bed doll patterns and had made a couple. This tiny crochet killed my fingers, but I had no problem making the doily. I was hooked! :) Now, I would rather crochet with thread than with yarn.
I will be adding pictures of some of my projects slowly because I would like to be able to tell you the name of the doily and where I got the pattern. I just wished I had taken pictures of my earlier projects!
Most of my projects are from The Big Book of Doilies (#1262 -1998 American School of Needlework,Inc), Absolutely Gorgeous Doilies designed by Patricia Kristoffersen (leaflet 2879), The Best of Patricia Kristoffersen (2001 Leisure Arts,Inc) and The Ultimate Doily Book (#1185 -1994 The American School of Needlework).Red Heart used to publish a magazine called "Crochet from the Heart". I have every issue and have found some great crochet projects in them.

"CandleLight" -The Ultimate Doily Book #1185
A Scrap yarn afghan. A grid had to be crocheted first; then each row was crocheted on the grid causing 'ruffles'. This is a HEAVY afghan. Keeps you warm!
This one is not as hard as it looks. Each row makes this pattern. My favorite afghan.

Another scrap afghan
This was made with the thick chenille yarn when it first came out. It cost $110 after all yarn was bought!
This is made with a cotton yarn that I bought at a yard sale.
Another scrap afghan
My American Flag afghan. I intended for it to be muted colors but the 'white' is too bright. I should have used ecru.
This was made with almost every color of Lionbrand Homespun, my favorite yarn.

These are all so lovely....you are "hooked", it's all good. Is the pattern Gentle Wind in this book? I have seen that and it is lovely as well. I am looking for the book/or pattern for that doily in particular.so lovely they all are.

Oh, wow, Charlotte! Your work is exquisite!!!

I love all your thread crochet work. I've been saving patterns, but have never had the nerve to try any of them. It is wonderful to see all your completed projects.

And I love your geometric design afghans. You said the black and white one wasn't as hard as it looks.. well, it sure is stunning! I love looking at it.

Looking forward to reading more of your blog,

Eileen in Arkansas
