Welcome to my blog about yard sales, crochet, my family and my life. A yard sale map in one hand and a crochet hook in the other.

Some of my projects

I was taught to knit by a great Home Economics teacher in 1967, Mrs. Betty Dickson. She was a great teacher and I want to thank her for everything she taught me. This is my first Granny afghan made from a kit in 1973. I taught myself to crochet following the directions from a Woman's Day magazine. Back then, there was always some type of project in the Woman's Day and Family Circle magazines. Today, nothing!
This is bedspread that I made using the pattern from a 1949 booklet I found at a yard sale. I found several others and will post them at a later date. This pattern is also in the American School of Needlework "The Crochet Yearbook" volume 1(2000)

This is a tablecloth I just finished. From "Favorite Throws & Table Toppers to Crochet" - Annie's Attic.

This is a throw I started and worked on after my Mother had her 1st stroke in April 2007. Four months later, I had to have emergency back surgery because of an abcess on my spine. We still don't know how I got it, but because of the love of my husband, I am alive and able to walk.Reminds me of 'Jim' from Ghost Whiperer!

This is my current project, a tablecloth using filet crochet. From Crochet magazine March 2003. I don't throw any crochet magazine away!

Food Network & Others

I love to watch Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives so when I found both books, I had to have them. I also love Sandra Lee; she is just a normal person like us. Paula Deen is another story. When I first started watching her shows, I loved her but the people in the south do not say "y'all" every other word! It's almost as irritaing as "You Know".
The Duggars. I love their show and appreciate their values, but God did not make women to breed like rabbits! Come on, Michelle, love yourself and quit destroying your body. Tell that horny husband to back off! I hope that both of you woke up and used some common sense after this last baby almost killed you.

White Trash cooking! Don't have to say anything else.

Mayberry, the town where we all want to live! Great recipes. Notice the 50 cents marked on the cover? That's what I paid for it at a yard sale.

If you grew up during the 60's to late 70's in North or South Carolina, you watched the Betty Feezor show on WBTV everyday! She was the "Martha Stewart" from Charlotte, NC and my mother & I loved to watch her. She died of cancer and we grieved as if we had lost a sister. The blackened edges on the book are from when my home burned in 1986. I lost a lot of material things, but my children and I were safe.

Snow!!

First snow of the year for our area. I woke up this morning about 3:30 because of the sleet hitting the window. Tried to go back to sleep but finally got up at 4:30. One good thing about this weather, they postponed working today. I only work eight hours a day, but the production lines have been working 12 hours for about a month now, probably longer. They needed a break.

Ghost Whisperer Fan

I have gotten hooked on the Ghost Whisperer series. Jennifer Love Hewitt is so beautiful! How does she cry on cue? 'Jim' is not bad looking either!

Books-a-Million!

I finally used the gift card my daughter, Janet, gave me for Christmas from Books-a-Million. My daughter, Micki, and I went yesterday and had a ball. Put me in a book store, craft store or flea market and I am in hog heaven! Below are the books I bought along with a box & bridal coupons to use for my future daughter-in-law's,Holly,bridal shower. The box was reduced and I only paid $4.40! We had just seen similar boxes in Michaels priced $10.99! I also got discounts on all of the books, anywhere from 50 cents to $2!

I now have all of the Mary Kay Andrews books. I love her style of writing; you can't put the book down until you finish it. I don't know when I will get to read all of these because I am working on a crochet project right now and I don't like to stop in the middle of a project if I don't have to.
Here are a few of my yard sale finds that I have collected over the years. It's still too cold and people have not started having yard sales yet. I can't wait!
This is a china cabinet that Justin made for me after we got married. As you can see, I love to collect teacups and small items.

Hope you enjoy!

More ramblings

Happy Birthday!

Today, my niece gave birth to her first child, Viviaen Bree. I hope I spelled that right. My sister is esctatic although she already has two grandsons, this is her first granddaughter. Congratulations to Sayra & Jerimiah. I will post pictures when I get them.

I have a Facebook page but have sort of gotten discouraged with it because I feel like I am invisible and I don't like feeling like that. All of my life, I have been treated that way and today I said No more! I can't wait to start posting pictures of some of my work and the treasures I find at yard sales. I don't have specific items that I look for when I go to yard sales. If it catches my eye and I like it, then I buy it. But I don't spend more than it is worth. You would be surprised at what you can find for 25 cent
My son is getting married in April to the sweetest girl. Justin & I love her! I will post updates of this event also.

I am so excited about starting this blog. Hope everyone enjoys!
