Faux Food

A friend of my son once asked me if I had any real food in my house.I love to collect things that look like the real stuff. This is the left side of a cabinet in my home with my collection of fake food and other things. Closeups of the fake food are in the next pictures to follow.
This is the right side of the cabinet.
Anyone ready for breakfast? Pancakes, cereal & coffee! Oops, someone spilled the coffee!
How about a snack of pretzels, maybe a glass of wine or a glob of peanut butter?
Can I interest you in a piece of pie? Apple with a scoop of ice cream or cherry? How about a frosted brownie or a pink cupcake? Who left the spoon of ice cream to melt? I have a whole cherry pie if you are really hungry. This is a ceramic pie dish that I made over 20 years ago. Strawberry shortcake? Another ceramic made over 20 years ago. How about a cake with strawberries and blackberries?
Or just a plain white cake?
How about a strawberry sundae?
Maybe you just want an apple, pear or a bunch of grapes? Or maybe we can make lemonade?
Can I interest you in a soda or beer? How about a shake?
I have a can of collards if that's what you want.
Maybe a jar of preserves? This tomato plant doesn't seem to grow anything bigger than a ping-pong ball!
Do you smoke after you eat? Sorry, these are lighters not cigarettes!

Maybe a dip of snuff?
Here's the menu...
This is the type of cook I am and how we know when dinner is ready..
Let's give thanks.
OK, who spilled the nail polish and left a paint brush on my table?

Crochet find at a yardsale!

Sorry! I messed up again! I think I know what to do next week! Wish me luck!Vintage Thursday at Colorado Lady! I have been looking forward to this week. Below is a picture of a bunch of crochet books I found at a yard sale . All for $1 !!! There are about 30 books dating from the late 1940's to the early 1950's. What a find!

The next 4 pictures are of the same bunch of books. I separated them so you could see more.

At the same yardsale, my husband bought this Victrola for $40. Right now, my grandsons have their TV sitting on top of it. As soon as they move the TV, I will post some pictures of the inside.

Snow, again!

Well it snowed again! But we are lucky, because this is a rare occurrence for South Carolina. It is beautiful, though.
I love the sun and water, but I'm not brave enough to become a member of the Polar Bear club.
Poor Roscoe!
Our grandkids, Sloan (7), Kayla (12), Ashton (17) and Gavin (11).

Rodney fell while trying to push Sloan down the hill.

Wednesday afternoon, Justin & the boys were outside playing catch when they noticed the rainbows.
Our oldest granddaughter, Ashton (17), walking home from the bus stop. She is my oldest daughter, Janet's,oldest daughter. That sounds confusing, doesn't it? They live behind us down a winding road.

And finally, a message from a 7 year old. Ain't that the truth?

This is my first post for Vintage Thursday at Colorady Lady. I hope I am doing this right. This is a dinette set my husband & I found at yard sale. Paid $59! I would rather sit and eat here than my regular dining table.

Proud grandmother (my sister Pam),proud mother, Sayra, and little Vivien.
This is a dress set that my mother made for the new baby. Mother has used this same pattern since I was a baby. Thats's a long time!
She even makes the slip to wear underneath.
This is the pattern that Mother has used for over fifty years. See the 15 cent price?
This is a 'redwork' quilt Mother made for baby.
This 2 week old little girl has more clothes than I do! Her daddy said all that was missing was the prom dress!
These are some of the old patterns that Mother has in her sewing room.

My Mother

My gift of crafting comes from my mother,Jeanette. She will be 81 years old in May and only in the last year has her health slowed her down. She made our clothes when we were kids and anything else that included a sewing machine. She would get up around 4:30 am and have her housework done before 7:00am. Then she would stay at her sewing machine only to leave to eat or take a bathroom break. Below is a picture of Mother admiring a quilt at Dollywood. Justin & I took her and our oldest grandson to Pigeon Forge the summer after my daddy died (2004)
This is a quilt my mother embroidered and quilted from a kit.
This is a quilt that Mother made for me a couple of Christmases ago. The top is made from feed sacks that her mother used to make clothes from. That makes the top over 50 years old. She had enough of these blocks to make a quilt for me, my two sisters and my brother. Notice the 'handprint' she embroidered in the corner. I had seen someone do this and suggested that she 'sign' her work this way.
