We went to bed last night so we would be well rested for our trip home. But around 12:30am, Justin and I were awakened by Sloan running up the stairs yelling, "Grandpa, there's a bear at the trash cans!" Didn't take us long to wake up!
The trash cans were right outside the window of the bedroom where the boys were sleeping. See the trash cans beside the chimney? They are enclosed and locked to keep bears out.
Justin and the boys were already downstairs looking out the window while I slowly took one step at a time (remember no lights!). But I forgot about the last step and almost fell. Thankfully there was a chair to keep me from falling. I never got to see the bear because I couldn't get to the window.
This bedroom is one step lower than the living room and I forgot about that (still dark!) and tripped again! This bear was going to kill me!
The bear finally left and after checking all doors and windows, we attempted to go back to sleep. That never happened! We tossed and turned the rest of the night. I got up at 7:30am and was drinking a cup of coffee when Justin got up. We started getting our stuff packed and when Justin went out to the truck, he saw bear tracks in the side of the hill. The pictures are hard to see but I think you may be able to see them..........
Pancakes for breakfast and then home...........
We arrived home around 1:30 pm with only one stop at a rest center after entering North Carolina. It rained hard on us coming through Tennessee, but cleared up after we got into NC.
Now, I'm going to rest so Pam and I can go yard saling! Thanks for joining me on my vacation.

Oh my goodness! How exciting but scary! There's no way I would have got back to sleep after that! Maggie xx

awesome & SCARY
Glad you had a nice vacation! I love seeing bears. We see them around here occasionally. Several yrs. back there was a bear and three cubs went through our yard. I took some pics, but it was almost dark so they didn't come out the best.
Jeez that's scary....not sure but I think I would have dived under the bedclothes and wished it far away.
I have been reading your previous posts and it certainly sounds as if you have had a great holiday.
You can say bull in a china shop and that does sound like my hubby. Craft shops and stalls have to be visited with the right person. You have to enjoy yourself after all and have plenty of time with no one tutting or hovering over you!
keep well
Amanda :-)
