Vintage Music

I promised in earlier posts that I would show more pictures of the Victrola and stereo that my husband had bought at yard sales. This first Victrola is my mother's. She has had this ever since I can remember. So that proves it's old:)
The front doors open to reveal the "speakers".

This is the Victrola that Justin bought at yard sale for $40.
The inside......
The crank...........
This is the stereo he bought for $15.
The top slides open and one side has the phonograph..............
..........and the other side has the radio. It even came with a couple of albums .
The 45's are mine. But that's a future post.

I remember stereos like this, my mom had a HUGE one....they were really popular back in the 60's and 70's. When my kids see things like this, they just roll their eyes...they think I am so OLD...hahah...Have a great VTT!

My parents have a similar stereo with the tubes in the back and it's still in working order for listening to my dad's 78s!

I wonder what happened to all the old consoles. My parents had one with a radio and record player (pre-stereo).

I love these things you've shared with us. I think I love the vintage things much more than the newer..they seem to mean more. Happy VTT..have a wonderful weekend.

How cool! I remember my parent having a "hi-fi". Back then stereos were furniture. A far cry from iPods and the like!

Wow, great pieces! We had a large stereo like your $15 find when I was a kid. I thought it was beautiful and dreamed of taking it away from my mom when I was a grown up, lol! No such luck! Happy VTT!

I remember the warm sound of those console hi-fi's. Must be the tubes. Interesting to see these. I wonder why the Victrola needle arms were curved that way? Do they still work?

I just donated a bunch of things to a charity organization that takes lots of stuff but one thing they dont take is - console stereos!

How strange and why not! So many people would want them. collectors! They take all manner of garbage - really, I saw the list...but not one of these things they would take!

Happy VTT

These are great! I remember my nan having one of these, not like the smaller one I grew up with! I too miss playing the records.

I just found you through Suzanne's blog. Crochet and yard sales! You sound like my kind of person!! Love them both. Now, that stereo, I love it. My parents had one just like it. It's long gone now, but I have some very happy memories of it. If I ever find one at a yard sale, I will pick it up. Happy to meet you and will return often!

Love,
Susan and Bentley

Your stereo reminds me of the "hi-fi" we had once upon a time. Loved that thing...

Where do you find prices like this? In California you could add $100. to $200. to all of your prices.., at least.
My parents had an old record player that they bought in the 1940's. My sister still has the cabinet. These bring back so many memories. We listened to Big John and Sparky, The Shadow and One Man's family( an early "Soap").
Thanks for a memories....

Love these old pieces--I had a hard time leaving one that I found a few weeks ago. There is simply nowhere to put it in my home! Enjoy them! Happy VTT!

Love your collection! Do the Victrolas work? We have one that sort of worked - the speed is all wrong so records sound funny. Which is entertaining itself.

And the console Hi-Fi. We see 'em often and want one but we'd have to buy another house so we would have room for it!
