Welcome to Vintage Thingy Thursday sponsored by Suzanne at Coloradolady. I posted some of these vintage goodies that I found at one yard sale last weekend, but was unsure about what a couple of them were. The cereal bowl had me stumped. I recognized the girl and boy but could not remember who they were and what cereal they sponsored. I 'googled' cereal cartoon characters and found a site Topher's Castle that has all of the characters for all of the major cereal brands. So, my mystery kids are ............
Sue and the Cheerios Kid from General Mill Cherrios!
The Cheerios Kid (1953) appeared on boxes of Cheerios from 1953 to 1973. He regularly rescued his friend Sue (1953) from cartoon-world dangers. He was seen in ads with Bullwinkle in 1966 and 1967. Slogans included “The ‘Power’ Breakfast the Whole Family Loves” in 1958, “Packed with GO Power …Get that Powerful Good Feelin’..Power O’s!” (1960), “The Big G stands for Goodness” (1962), “Go with the Goodness of Cheerios” (1964).
"Get yourself Go! Get Cheerios! Energy O's that help your grow!", "Get Go power with Cheerios", "Come on strong with Cheerios", "Start feeling your Cheerios", "We're gonna start the day... the right way... the oat way... the oatier oat way... Gonna have a bowl of them O's. Gonna get a pow-pow-powerful... good-good feelin' from cheer-cheer-Cheerios", "When you go for the goodness, you'll go for Cheerios", "Put a little cheer in breakfast with cheer-cheer- Cheerios", "The taste kids go for...", "Cheerios have holes. And a whole lot more", and "So get up and go with Cheerios" (all 1969-1970).The Cheerios Kid (1953) appeared on boxes of Cheerios from 1953 to 1973. “Nutrition. That’s the Cheerios Tradition” (1971), and “Oats, the Grain Highest in Protein” (1971). The image on the right is from a 1973 box of Cheerios.
The next mystery 'thingie' was this fish-shaped thing that was in this 10 cent bag of sewing stuff. After 'googling' for what was imprinted on the side (Whale Art Co St Louis Mo), I discovered this is a carpet tool. Who knew?
This was the best find in another bag of sewing stuff for 25 cents. It's the instructions for using the Singer needle threader, dated 1936 and 1937.
Hope you enjoyed a trip through yesteryear!

I love the whale and the needle threader.
I wonder if any of the old Cheerios commercials are online.
I checked YouTube and there are a lot of Cheerios commercials there.
It is always nice to travel back in time. I enjoyed the trip you shared today.
I don't remember the Cheerio's kids. Good detective work, that is part of the fun too, getting a line on the history of an object.
Good stuff....
It is amazing what you can find out now on the web....great finds, love the cereal bowl, I remember those kids too! Have a great VTT!
I love that fish! So cool!
Cute things! I don't know any of those characters here in Australia. I like your crochet-themed blog! I've just started crocheting myself. But I've been thrifting for years ;-)
My favourite find would be the ric rac!
Oh, I sure remember the Cheerio kid and Sue! Great finds :)
Blessings!
Gail
What great sewing finds! The whale is wonderful...I love practical tools made to look beautiful!
Your Cheerios bowl is a real find! We have some Cheerios sports bags that I'm waiting to be vintage! :)
Thanks for leaving me a comment! I like pink, but I dont really use it in my house, except the girls' room. I was thinking maybe a pale blue or apple green. Or good old white. I might try selling the machine, not sure yet. I already have a newer singer, and older one (dont remember the brand, possibly from the 60s?) and a really old Singer Sew Handy (my grandmothers?)
These are definitely great unique finds! Thanks for googling and sharing what you learned, that's the best part of VTT for me!
Thank you for stoppin by my place Miss Charlotte..Looking forward to your next vintage excursion....
Those are some really neat finds! I remember that we had a set of the orange bowls when I was growing up :)
