What an eventful week!

This week has been a sad one for York County. One of our local deputies was killed in the line of duty. Three other officers were also wounded but will survive. Please pray for their families.
We also got our first snow of the year Wednesday. It shut schools down for the rest of the week.
Naturally, I kept my ass in the house! Hate snow!!!
I finished my latest graphghan while keeping warm. It was gifted to my husband's business partner. The written pattern can be found in my Etsy shop, CHuffmanCrochet.
I "frogged" this afghan because I wasn't happy with it.....
......and used the yarn to start The Peppermint Throw....
I finished Week 7 of the Element CAL....
I have thought about no longer blogging because I already post on Facebook and Instagram, but decided to keep on for a little longer. Please follow me on Facebook and/or Instagram.
Stay warm and safe.

Saturday News

Well, fudge! This is not how I planned to spend my Saturday! I've posted pictures on Facebook and Instagram, but my blog is my "electronic diary".
I had said I wasn't going anywhere on Saturday after a long day of shopping with Janet and Micki on Friday. But I had made some messy bun beanies for a friend and was going to deliver them to her and get a few things at Walmart. As I turned into the street to my friend's house, a car waiting to turn out decided they didn't want to wait any longer. BAM! T-boned in my driver's side! Hard enough to deploy all side air bags! My ear felt one of them when it deployed. Shaking so bad but I was able to call 911. Justin was in the passenger seat and was complaining of his left arm hurting. This really scared me because he has high blood pressure. He was able to get out but my door was jammed. The police had to use the 'Jaws of Life' to get me out. The driver that hit us was ok....her car didn't look like it had any damage. Found out later she was 92 years old!!!!
That's Justin in the camo jacket and Rodney in the blue.

We opted to be checked out at the hospital because of my neck and back history and Justin's high blood pressure. We're going to be sore for a few days but other than that we're fine. Looks like a 'new' car might be in the future. Thank god we had GAP insurance!
Thanksgiving was a beautiful day with all of the kids and grandkids. No pictures except for sweet Amelia falling asleep in my arms.
Holly had her hair pulled up into two pigtails that made her look like 'Cindy Lou Who'!
I haven't crocheted in almost 5 days now! Can't figure out what to do next! So many patterns to choose from!
That's all folks!

Ten years ago...............

....................my life changed forever. I was rushed to the hospital for emergency back surgery. It all started with a back ache that I thought was because I had slept wrong or we needed a new mattress. The new mattress didn't help and my back ache was getting worse. So bad that I left work early and called Justin to take me to the doctor. Now if you know me, you know that if I leave work and go to the doctor, I'm sick!
The doctor thought I had kidney stones but an X-ray didn't confirm, so they sent me to Rock Hill for a CAT Scan. I was hurting so bad I couldn't sit in a chair and had to lay on a bed. The CAT scan showed nothing, so I was sent home. This was on a Tuesday.
Justin wasn't satisfied with the results, so he took me to the hospital in Pineville, NC. Another CAT scan with no diagnosis.
For the next three days, I laid in the bed because I could not do anything else. But Justin was busy trying to get someone to tell us what was wrong. On Friday, we went to an orthopedic doctor who diagnosed me with a ruptured disc just by looking at me! No Xrays, nothing! He scheduled a MRI for the following Monday. When we returned home, I collapsed because my right leg no longer worked. Justin took me to Pineville again where they performed a MRI. The next thing I know, I'm being put into an ambulance headed for the main hospital in Charlotte.
I was rushed to surgery where the doctor removed an epidural abscess. I was on morphine for the next three days. I still don't remember much about those days. I spent two weeks in rehabilitation learning to walk again. I still had to use a catheter for at least a week after I came home.

I praise my husband everyday for taking care of me. If he hadn't kept trying to find out what was wrong with me, I would probably be paralyzed or dead!
We really don't know what caused this. The doctors said it was something that got in my blood. The only thing we can figure out is I was having nose bleeds before this happened.
I have spinal damage and can no longer squat, but at least I can walk. Not as fast as I used to, but it could be worse.

Saturday news

First, I want to let everyone know Mother is doing great after her toe removal this morning. She said she no longer hurts. I snuck this picture of her during my visit.
When Justin and I started out this morning to go get breakfast and a few yard sales, we discovered someone had took the paper box out! Clearly somebody has some damage to their car or truck!
As I left the house I noticed a hitchhiker.....

I drove a little slower than normal until the first stop. I had to "encourage" him to jump!
Found a few things at yard sales this morning and a few more on the way to and from the hospital.
A miniature high chair $1....
White owl (Micki has claimed this one) $2. It has a $14.99 price tag on it!
Brown owl also $2 (price tag $7.99) I think Janet might want this one.
Parrot $2 . Originally tagged $4. Has a $19.99 tag on it. This one's mine!
 Three bowling pins $1 each!
 KISS $5. These are Justin's!
Avon train $2. This is for Pam's collection.
Sunscreen for Gavin's car $1 and flower tissue paper $1.
That's it for now. Next weekend I'm going to West Jefferson, NC with Pam for the annual antique fair. Until then....

Damage control!

So I'm sitting in my recliner crocheting and watching TV when all of a sudden the sky started falling! Literally! This shelf holding my baby quilt and Japanese collectibles .......
.......came crashing down scaring the shit out of me! Justin came running and he helped me pick up broken plates and knick knacks. Even the floor lamp was damaged! Here is the shelf and a few salvaged collectibles....

Now I have two holes in my wall!
I'm just glad this didn't happen while we were asleep! Double heart attacks!
I've been making some fingerless gloves with free patterns from this website, Knitting and So On.

I used Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn. Beautiful results but a bitch if you have to rip out!
I'm going to attempt one of the taxidermy projects again. I've been seeing a few from Facebook friends and I'm motivated again.
Rainy day here in SC .....great day to do nothing but crochet!

OMG!!

I witnessed something this morning that I have never seen except on TV! A seventeen year old rolled his car after nearly missing me! I met him on a curve near our home. He went off the side of the road and when he tried to get back on the road, he started fish-tailing. He just barely got by me! I looked in the rear view mirror and saw his car flipping in the air! Luckily, he was not hurt bad.
Can you believe he flipped do high that he missed this sign?

The EMS pulled his tuxedo out of the car! The prom is Saturday! His shoes and other personal items were all over the road! I'm just glad I didn't witness a death!
